Consultant engineer, water and energy technologies; from 1981 to 1986 also managing director of an Energy- and Environmental Information Centre

1986 – 1989:

Member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, Green Party environment spokesman

since 1989

Head of the Direcktorate of envirmonmental affairs

since 1997

also ‘Erster Stadtrat’ of the City of Hannover and thus Deputy Chief Executive of the city administration after the Lord Mayor

since 2005:

also Head of the Directorate of Economic Affairs

In all three functions re-elected by the 65 councilmen of the City till July 2013.

In charge of around 1,800 local government employees and an annual budget of approx. 390m €
